This is a miniature replica of a US Gatling Gun from 1861. You may wonder why you still know the name of a 19th Century weapon, well there are many reasons why this particular model has remained so popular and well known. The Gatling Gun is one of the best-known early rapid-fire spring loaded, hand cranked weapons and a forerunner of the modern machine gun and rotary cannon. It was invented by Richard Gatling and saw occasional use by the Union Forces during the American Civil War in the 1860's. This was the first time this weapon was employed in combat. Later, it was used again in numerous military conflicts such as the Boshin War and the Anglo-Zulu War. .
